What do you like about advising?
Advising is like puzzle work. There is a pathway for everyone and no pathway looks the same, so being able to fit together the students goals with opportunities and resources is rewarding.
What do you like about working with engineering students?
I have many family members and friends who are engineers, especially the Michigan auto industry. Their dedication and innovation has always been something to admire. Being able to support students with a similar mindset and contribution to advancement of society is exciting.
What was your major in college, and why?
I majored in Elementary Education with a concentration in English. Growing up I always knew that I wanted to support and encourage students. At the end of my undergraduate experience, this goal shifted to supporting students during their college experience instead. I chose English as my subject area due to my love of reading and writing. I can talk to anyone about books for hours and am slowly working on a book of my own!
What is your best piece of advice for first year students?
Take one thing at a time and enjoy yourself! Get acclimated to the college experience and then you can start exploring the many opportunities you can add on your academic journey.
What do you spend time on outside of your work?
I am a person of many hobbies! Hiking/backpacking, reading, baking, rock climbing, pilates, crafting, trying new restaurants, and taking my dog on long walks are just a few. A number of these hobbies are best done with the company of family or friends.
