Kathryn McLravy

Academic Advising Intern

What do you like about advising?
I love meeting with students! It's great to learn more about their interests, goals, and passions.
What was your major in college, and why?
I majored in Interpersonal Communication. I have always been interested in the explicit and implicit ways messages are received and interpreted. However, I switched my major four times before choosing communication! If you are unsure about your future major, we can definitely talk about your options!
What is your best piece of advice for first year students?
Try to go outside of your comfort zone. Ask a new friend for lunch, try out a club, and go to (virtual!) events. Even though it may feel awkward at first, it is a great way to meet people and feel more immersed at U-M!
What do you spend time on outside of work?
I am a cellist and have played in local community ensembles and university orchestras (pre-COVID of course!) I love to walk around Ann Arbor and find a nice spot to read. I also have two cats who love to play and keep me very busy!
