What do you like about advising?
I love welcoming first-year students to the University of Michigan and supporting them as they transition into college. Students’ first-years can be such a transformative year in their lives of exploring new interests, meeting new friends, and growing as a person. It is such an honor to me that I get to encourage them, celebrate with them, and support them through that! As an advisor, it is my goal to demonstrate to students that they belong at Michigan and they always have our team cheering them on!
What do you like about working with engineering students?
Our Engineering students are so creative, innovative, and dedicated. I love hearing about how they are passionate about solving complex problems by uniquely combining their engineering degree with their interests in topics like sustainability, inclusivity, public health, policy and more!
What was your major in college, and why?
In undergrad, I majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) - which is a very small, unique liberal arts program here on campus. When I first came to Michigan, I had no idea what I wanted to study. I explored a number of classes in my first few years, and then I met the PPE advisor at the major/minor fair in the Michigan Union and I was sold! I chose this program because I loved the interdisciplinary nature of it and how it trained me to explore problems from moral, economic, and political perspectives simultaneously. This degree offered me flexibility, helped me develop strong writing and analysis skills, and prepared me to pursue a graduate degree in higher education!
What is your best piece of advice for first year students?
Explore, join communities, and try new things! Here at the University of Michigan there are so many opportunities and resources for you to take advantage. Whether it’s study abroad, IM sports, research, student orgs, or more - you have the power to choose what experiences you want in your college years! I love helping students to recognize how they can design their own unique collegiate experiences from all the resources and opportunities we have on campus.
What is the best kept secret in the College of Engineering?
I simply love the environment of North Campus! It is so serene and offers a peace that is unique compared to the downtown vibe of Central Campus. When I was a student, the Dude was my favorite study spot because it was quiet and had way way better snacks!
What do you spend time on outside of your work?
I love to be active and be outdoors! I love enjoying daily walks outside, spending time in the Arb or by the river, and cycling. In the summers, I am often training for triathlons so I spend a lot of time running, swimming, and cycling outside with friends! Beyond that, I love to spend time reading or with friends in coffee shops and enjoy downtown Ann Arbor with friends and family.
