What do you like about advising?
I enjoy helping students understand and recognize how their academic goals and their decisions outside of the classroom come together in surprising ways.

What do you like about working with engineering students?
I appreciate how they need to hold the big picture in their imaginations while also focusing on many small details.

What was your major in college, and why?
My majors in undergrad were English and Philosophy, and I focused on Irish Studies for my graduate work. I like thinking about how form and style shape our ability to do and say things we couldn’t otherwise do--problems engineers work through too!

What is your best piece of advice for first year students?
The great thing about colleges is that there are always people who know something that you don’t (ask them for help!), and there are always people who don’t know things that you understand well (offer them help!).

What do you spend time on outside of your work?
I love reading Irish fiction and poetry, fantasy, and sci-fi; I struggle to be patient when book series haven’t been completed by their authors by the time I finish the most recent book. I enjoy exercising and watching college sports. I’m also an avid Buffalo Bills fan (a lot of my exercise comes from pacing in front of the TV during Bills games).
