All first-year engineering students will receive a copy of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot to read over the summer before arriving on campus and starting the journey at Michigan.
Over the summer, participate in conversations with fellow students on social media using the hashtag #UmichEnginRead.
In the fall, you will participate in engaging, small group book discussions led by current upper-level Engineering students. These discussions will include themes related to the book as well as conversation about what it means to be a Michigan Engineer, making the most of your Michigan Engineering experience, and opportunities for developing in areas such as creativity and innovation, an entrepreneurial mindset, intercultural intelligence, a collaborative spirit, social and environmental responsibility, and effective communication.
In addition to the discussion sessions, there will be numerous events throughout the semester related to the book, including an exciting keynote speaker.
